Spins 125 Best Albums of the Past 25 Years
By Jodi | Filed under In the News | Comments (6)
While most of this Spin list made me make that skeptical, smug, judgmental smelled something bad face. U2? Really? God, I hate U2. And I’m a little shocked that The Strokes placed so high (above Liz Phair’s Exile in Guyville, seriously do the people at Spin have hearing problems). But, I was pretty stoked to see numbers 15 and 11.

Blender’s 100 Greatest American Albums Ever
By Jodi | Filed under In the News | Comments (2)
Pop Candy points use to Blender’s 100 Greatest American Albums of All Time. Don’t worry you won’t have to click too many of the next, next, next cockamamie navigational trick used to pump up page views to get to The Replacements. Really, the expect us to click that button 100 times. What the hell?
But I am already question the veracity of this list, and I’m only on 96. Because they rank The fucking Doors and Kid Rock above Let it Be. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!
Some click that next button for an hour and then come back and tell us what is #1. I’m too ADD to get past 85.

In the Blogs: The I will try not to talk politics just for you Edition
By Jodi | Filed under In the Blogs | Comments (17)

Oh, first of all, I heard (Tell Me) Who You Gonna Marry on 89.3 The Current today (yesterday when you’re reading this). I nearly fell out of Ruby (my truck) for two reasons. 1.) Barb Abney called it “Tell Me Who You Gonna Marry. (take that you Terri lovers) and 2.) I just hadn’t heard anything off of 49:00 on the radio.
Filter magazine revisits the Replacements.
WNYC’s Sound Check blog weighs in on Minnesota’s musical muscle.
Aquarium Drunkard reviews 3oclockreep.
Here’s a random (apolitical) aside. Why is everyone so unsure/surprised that Tom Waits appears on 3oclockreep. Has the Internet collectively forgotten about “Date to the Church?”
Hoboken Rock City reminisces about the Replacements after learning of Steve Foley’s death.
DFactors’ got a bit about the latest release. His post makes me laugh, but then I am generally a fan of his writing.
Also, for the record, my dander is not up. I am just questioning. I am inquisitive and rancorous by nature. I just find all these garage cleaning sort of releases odd. I mean, it’s weird, isn’t it? I had something else I was going to say and now I forgot it. I blame DFactor and the dander.
I really like the enthusiasm behind this post on Art Voice about the release of 3oclockreep.
Box of Clams has a great post questioning the “what does it all mean”ess of Westerberg’s digital download releases.
Look I made it all the way through and didn’t make you sit through one political rant. Consider yourself lucky.

49 minutes of new music in less than 48 hours
By Jodi | Filed under PW News | Comments (9)
The Strib has a list of the bonus material that will be available on the September reissues of The Replacements’ Sire records, and in the comments mentions that on Saturday, July 19th there will be 49 minutes of NEW (I think) Paul Westerberg music available for download for only 49 cents.
Check back on Saturday to find the link to where you can download the 49 minutes of gloriousness.
P.S. If you didn’t see it in the comments DFactor has the YouTube videos of the Captiol Paul Westerberg documentary posted on his site. Sweet!

In the Blogs: The Happy Anniversary to the Bad Idea Whose Time Has Come edition
By Jodi | Filed under In the Blogs | Comments (2)

For those of you who are like me and don’t subscribe to rock and roll magazines like Spin, it was a delight to see The Replacements article go online. It’s a pretty great read. If you got the time give it a look.
If you haven’t been living under a rock you know that Rock Band 2 is set to include the ‘Mats’ “Alex Chilton” and a song off Guns ‘N Roses “Chinese Democracy.” Does that meant it includes two ‘Mats related songs?
Over at her Petal Pusher blog, Laurie Lindeen talks about how she has unwittingly turned into Nanny Narc.
I am linking to this record review for two reasons:
1. I know not one, but two people named Ryan Smith (and neither of them is the dude mentioned in the review)
2. I like the writing, and that the writer said, “It also could be the best six Paul Westerberg songs that Paul Westerberg neither wrote nor recorded. That’s a huge compliment (If you just said “Who?” just stop reading now and Google the genius that is Paul Westerberg, The Replacements, and head out and purchase his amazing solo work. Now. Really. Google. Now.).”
Finally, I have decided that today is our first anniversary. We made a few random posts in June of 2007 and one on like July 3, but it really seemed to get kicking in on the 16th of July.
Yay us!

In the Blogs: The nobody’s doing any good writing so I’ll tell you about this show edition
By Jodi | Filed under In the Blogs | Comments (2)

Someday, I am going to populate this list with nothing but links to The Replacements movie or the The Replacements cartoon or knee replacements. Why? Because that would make me laugh. I should have probably done it this week, because I didn’t find anything of interest to link to. Boo to the hoo.
However, if you’re looking local (Minneapolis/St.Paul) and you’re looking for something to do this Friday, June 6th, and you weren’t invited to my birthday party (because my birthday is June 6th), you should go check out the How Was the Show 6th Anniversary Birthday Bash at the Turf Club.
Why? Because I am sure it will be filled with cool kids, and because one of the bands (the 757s) was described thusly: “First things first: These guys are capital-L Loud. The music, which is a mix of The Replacements ragged thunder and The Who’s jetliner roar, ends up sticking in your grey matter almost immediately.”. So, duh, you should go.
