Billie Joe Armstrong Meets Paul Westerberg in April Spin Magazine…

In a series of interviews where today’s artists talk with their own idols, Billie Joe of Green Day talks with PW. Too short article, but Paul seems pretty good-natured about the exchange.
The online version isn’t the full story, but in the print version, the greatest revelation I didn’t know: the misheard lyrics of Bastards: “We are the sons of no one” is actually “Wait on the sons of no one” – Paul says he lifted that phrase from the Bible. Wow! And I thought “Bacon & Cigarettes” was king!

Art Brut’s Ode to the Replacements
By shelaka | Filed under Westbergesque | Comments (3)
Was listening to the Current the other day when this song came on about the Replacements! (Thanks, Swill Merchant.) Never heard of Art Brut before, but any band that discovers and likes the Mats (it’s never too late!) is okay by me. With lines like “This time I really want to believe / Another record with my heart on the sleeve” and “Some of them are almost as old as my parents” it’s pretty amusing…
Plus the Current followed with They Might Be Giants’ “We’re the Replacements” as well as “I Will Dare” for the capper! Nice!
Cheers,

Ryan Adams: still angry at PW
By shelaka | Filed under In the News | Comments (25)
Saw this piece in the latestRolling Stone about Ryan Adams’ influences. After searching in vain for the Mats/PW, saw that Zen Arcade was on his list, with this little blurb:
“He got a big hug from Hüsker Dü frontman Bob Mould when they met this year, but another of his heroes from Minneapolis wasn’t that into him. “Paul Westerberg said in an interview that someone should knock my teeth out,” Adams says. “I left home because of things like that. I can’t listen to his music again, ever.”
Opinions? I know this was covered here like, 5 years ago.
Also RS has a review of the reissue of Tim.
