Holy Triumvirate: The not-so-much edition

Some week the “In the Blogs” feature will return, but lately I’ve been much too lazy to dig through all the B.S. posts. Actually, I’ve been really quite busy doing stuff that doesn’t include reading through 83,183 Google alerts about “replacements” for some soccer team and how Lizzie in Tacoma was feeling a little down the other day so she listened to “Here Comes a Regular” a lot.

Anyway, for this week’s edition of the Holy Triumvirate I spent about 30 seconds thinking of my least favorite ‘Mats songs. Here goes:
1. Dose of Thunder
2. Lay it Down Clown
3. We’ll Inherit the Earth

Seriously, how can you argue with that? (and now as some sort of karmic retribution, I cannot stop singing “We’ll Inherit the Earth”)

ALSO — holy hell with the Cage Match II over there ——>. I never thought it would be this close. I might have to demand a recount.

When it Began or Asking me lies. Shooting Dirty Pool? You are crazy. Not a song with depth but it’s a fun rocker!!

Believe it or not, I agree completely with you Jodi. Little dose of thunder and lay it down clown have long been sticking points with me. Their very existence mars an otherwise PERFECT album. I may, on some days, replace we’ll inherit the earth with talent show. I know its not the worst ever, but something about it has always bugged me.

    16 blue
    Androgynous
And all shook down( the album )

I like lay it down clown clowns.
Well, mostly I just enjoy saying “lay it down clown” when the opportunity arises.

    I can’t stand “I Won’t,” but it’s damn good for a laugh.

I love shooting dirty pool….both literally and the song. I love “i won’t” in rush hour traffic. But I agree it would sound better in the sorry ma days.

I like both My Little Problem and Shooting Dirty Pool. If any song off PTMM should be in the bottom 3 it is Night Club Jitters. Not a horrible song I guess but terribly out of place on that record - I wish they would have replaced it with something like PO Box instead.

As for the bottom 3 it is hard for me to argue with Lay It Down Clown and Dose of Thunder and I guess I would add Androgynous.

I am surprised by the lack of love for Androgynous. I think it’s a great song.

I would have loved to hear the debate about putting Garys Gotta Boner on over Perfectly Lethal…

You NAILED it with “Lay it Down Clown” and “Dose of Thunder”! Those are clearly songs PW did against his will after Tommy called him wimpy one too many times!

When the definitive “Jaytaco Mats Xmas Box Set®” comes out, you can also rest assured that Jungle Rock and all those stupid late 50’s rockers that were Ledge B-sides wont be included.

“I would have loved to hear the debate about putting Garys Gotta Boner on over Perfectly Lethal…”

Not to mention putting Lay It Down Clown on over Nowhere Is My Home and Shooting Dirty Pool on over PO Box. Maybe they thought, “Well, we need to leave some good stuff off so that we’ll have some bonus tracks to put on the remasters in twenty years.” What foresight on their part.

I agree with Jodi - the only two songs I don’t usually listen to are Lay it Down Clown and Dose of Thunder. They seem like forced “rockers.” Shooting Dirty Pool has a better riff. I like the words to Inherit but not the tune.

    Don’t be hatin’ Gary…

“Nowhere Is My Home” - Favorite unreleased track

“You’re Getting - (or “Don’t Get - depending on the version) Married” - other favorite unreleased track
