The Strib asks that question and answers it! (thanks Erik for the tip)
And if you’re looking for more about the Color Me Obsessed party (that featured the Craig Finn cover), head on over to Jukebox Graduate for a great write up and more videos.

Head over to The L Magazine for a nice write up of a ‘Mats tribute concert and see an awesome video of a Bastards of Young cover.
Here’s Finn singing Within Your Reach and talking about getting Hootenanny. Thanks to The Largehearted Boy for pointing it out.

Things might get a little wonky
By Jodi | Filed under Thx the mgmt | Comments (0)
I’m in the midst of moving the site to a new server. Things might be a bit wonky while the DNS shakes out and I bumble my way through this giant pain the ass process.
Wish me luck!
Okay, things seems to be shaking out okay. If you notice anything broken or particularly goofy, please let me know (jodi@iwilldare.com).

Westerberg makes “Bastards”-like cameo in Glen Campbell video
By blasty | Filed under PW News | Comments (5)
“Westerberg — who has been out of the public eye for about five years now and famously didn’t appear in the Replacements’ video for “Bastards of Young” — makes a surprising yet typically coy cameo appearance in the video for the title track of Campbell’s acclaimed new album, “Ghost on the Canvas.” The video actually starts off as a direct homage to and/or imitation of the classic “Bastards” clip, with Westerberg playing the part of the dude loafing on the couch staring at the stereo speaker. Paul reappears throughout, too (though not as part of the weirdly hip, young band behind Campbell). The Minneapolis music legend’s involvement makes sense (sort of) if you know that he wrote the “Ghost” song for Campbell. And if you’re a fan, you should know it right away upon hearing the song — classic Westerberg”.

Q&A with PW in VV
By Jodi | Filed under In the News | Comments (5)
In case you missed this yesterday (like I did), The Village Voice has a nice little Q&A with Paul about that new Glen Campbell record. It includes this little tidbit. I, for one, would still buy a Paul Westerberg record.
As far as the grown-ups go, are you thinking of putting out a proper solo album again, or have you had it with the industry?
I’m always writing and I have plenty of songs, but I think the Glen Campbell record is a bit of a test to see if people still buy records. Or go for my stuff. I’d like to go on record and say something concrete, but I can’t. So, we shall see.

Mats reunion? Maybe. Mats box set? Most certainly…
By blasty | Filed under In the News, Uncategorized | Comments (18)
At least, according to this Rolling Stone article.
While a reunion may be unlikely in the near future, Westerberg has spent a lot of time recently combing through his past for a planned box set. “On a whim I got to dig through some old tapes,” he says. “I found one song I never put on anything for people to hear. Then I dug deeper and found the original ‘Good Day’ [from his 1996 solo LP Eventually]. That pretty much stunned me. I have to close this box set pretty soon because this could take the rest of my life just going through all these things and going, ‘God, why was that there.’”

Tough Questions for Tommy Stinson

What’s the weirdest thing you two(TS an PW) ever did together?
“One night we were in L.A., staying at the Hyatt on Sunset Boulevard. As a dare, we told this cab driver we’d give him a hundred bucks to drive us backwards all the way to Small’s, which was a bar on Gower and Melrose. He actually did it! He went down Sunset, crossed down Fountain, the entire way in reverse. I don’t know how we didn’t get pulled over by the cops, but it was funny as shit”.

Gibson’s top 50 American Bands
By blasty | Filed under Westbergesque | Comments (1)
Guess who’s #25…
“Formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1979, The Replacements, led by singer-songwriter-guitarist Paul Westerberg, shot to underground-alternative superstardom thanks to a slew of critically acclaimed (if not commercially successful) albums and a notoriously unpredictable and rowdy live show, where the band’s very presence and inebriation level were anyone’s best-guess from night to night. Said Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong after seeing The Replacements for the first time: “It changed my whole life. If it wasn’t for that, I might’ve spent my whole time playing in bad speed-metal bands.” – Sean Patrick Dooley”
